Cris Montalvo Ccc-Slp’s Expertise I have a wide variety of interests including travel, sports, film, theater, literature and current events. I have had several challenges to overcome in my life, the most significant is having a stroke at the age of 23. During my recovery, I wanted to help others in my position which is why I became a speech therapist. I've had some wonderful opportunities at Duke Regional and Duke Hospital to work with other stroke survivors and raise awareness about stroke. I was recently asked to speak as part of a larger presentation about IRF vs SNF reimbursement with the Duke Clinical Research Institute, I have spoken the last 2 years at the Duke Heart Center's "Pretty Party in Red" - an event targeting women's heart health, and I participate in our Stroke Support Group on a regular basis, both as a practicing clinician and stroke survivor. To some people, I've already achieved all my goals. But outreach, education and providing care targeted to the whole person will always keep me striving for more.
